“I started a presentation to the TLScontact leadership team recently by reminding everyone that during the time we had been on the call (40 minutes or so), 60 people in the world had taken their own lives. That certainly got everyone’s attention! It also helped me to underline just how seriously we all need to take mental health.
According to the World Health Organisation (WHO), someone dies by taking their own life every 40 seconds. The WHO also estimates that mental health problems, especially depression, will be the leading cause of mortality worldwide by 2030. And those figures were published before the Covid-19 pandemic, which has unleashed a new wave of physical and mental suffering all around the world, as people have lost loved ones and livelihoods, and their daily lives have been turned upside down.“
