Biometrics / Personal appearance

  • Since 25.09.2014, all diplomatic representations of the Schengen member states in Turkey are capturing the biometric data (finger scans and facial image) of persons applying for a Schengen visa. The data is being kept in the Visa Information System (VIS) for 59 months.

  • If your finger scans have not been collected yet, personal appearance when applying for a Schengen visa is mandatory. If your finger scans were previously collected (within the last 59 months) and a visa with the mention "VIS" has been granted, then you won’t have to give new finger scans for your next visa application(s) and personal appearance is not mandatory.
  • You will still have to appear in person to give your fingerprints should the previously collected fingerprints prove to be of insufficient quality or should the Consulate General wish to conduct an interview with you.
  • Finger scans are not required from children under the age of 12.
  • Biometric exemption: Please click here for more detail.

Upon the instruction of the Consulate General of Switzerland:

  • Only complete applications will be accepted.
  • The visa form for minor applicants (under the age of 18) needs to be signed by both parents. Furthermore, both parents passport copies are needed when submitting a visa application for a minor.
  • The bank account provided should show the last 3 months of activity and the balance should show an amount equivalent to (at least) 100 Swiss Francs per day of stay in Switzerland. Students and Visitors staying at a private residence can show a balance with less than that. Applicants with insufficient bank accounts won’t be processed in the usual processing time and will suffer delays as the Consulate General will most likely be asking for a new bank statement or start the process for the “declaration of financial guarantee” from the host in Switzerland. With immediate effect, Bank accounts with a negative balance won’t be accepted anymore.
  • The visa applications filed through Keni Turizm and Hermes Consulting Organizasyon Dis. Tic. Ltd. Sti will not be accepted as valid applications.
Documents in Arabic language:
  • For applicants handing in documents issued in Arabic language, please note that it’s mandatory to translate all Arabic documents to English. The translation should be done by an official translator.
